Bisons
As a young cattle farmer, Steve Chappuis spends most of his time between working on the farm run by his mother Mathilde and practicing traditional wrestling in the hope of one day winning a crown at the Swiss Federal Championships. In this corner of the northern Jura countryside, where the snowy winter accentuates the impression of growing impoverishment, mother and son are going through a complicated period. Since the recent death of Christian, the head of the family, debts have been piling up, jeopardizing the future of the farm. The return to the farm of eldest son Joël, does Mathilde some good. But while she sees this as a regeneration of the family fabric, Steve is silently hostile towards his resentful brother. But it is Joel, driven by a desire for redemption, who opens his younger brother's eyes to the situation at the kennel and suggests a solution: engage in illegal fighting in France to raise the money needed to clean their slate. With his back against the wall, Steve decides to follow Joël down the path of illegality. Even if it means lying to his mother. Even if it means betraying the trust of Maurice, his wrestling coach and mentor. Even if it means seeing in the eyes of Lena, The young vet for whom he has feelings, a form of repulsion. In the end, Steve could lose more than just his family fortune. He could lose his life. And, perhaps worst of all, his soul...
Bisons is also the poignant tale of two brothers fighting for survival in an increasingly hostile world. - Cineuropa
